Deborah is an independent arbitrator and mediator who has handled a dozen or more formal dispute resolution proceedings and numerous resolutions outside formal proceedings. Before launching her ADR practice, Deborah spent 11 years in various corporate roles. She previously spent 22 years at a Top 100 law firm, focusing on complex transactions. She brings practical experience, legal skills and financial acumen to evaluating issues.
Deborah’s corporate roles including serving as CEO of an innovative digital behavioral health company; as independent Board Chair for a $1B revenue family-owned consumer products company; as Restructuring Officer of a telecom company with peak revenues of $500 million; and select strategic engagements focused on biopharma financing and health innovation.
While practicing law, Deborah was rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell and was recognized for more than 10 years in Best Lawyers in American for corporate law. She was a leader in her law firm, co-founding and growing a new office. She was the first woman and youngest partner elected by the members to the management committee.
Deborah is actively working to increase diversity in ADR as Chair of the Outreach Subcommittee for ABA’s Women in Dispute Resolution and through involvement in CPR’s Diversity in ADR Task Force and ArbitralWomen. Hear Deborah discuss diversity initiatives on the ABA’s “Resolutions” podcast here.
Deborah is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. She is admitted to the American Arbitration Association’s Panel of Arbitrators for Commercial, Consumer, Health Care, M&A and Joint Ventures; the American Health Lawyers' Association Panel of Arbitrators; the International Institute of Conflict Prevention & Resolution's Distinguished Panel of Neutrals for Arbitration; and FINRA’s Panel of Arbitrators. She was an arbitrator in five rounds at the 26th Annual Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna (2019).
She is a certified mediator under the North Carolina Mediated Settlement Conference Program for the Business Court and other Superior Courts. She is admitted to the International Institute of Conflict Prevention & Resolution's Distinguished Panel of Neutrals for Mediation and to the AAA-administered Disaster Mediation Program for Hurricane Florence for the North Carolina Department of Insurance.
